A Superior Court judge granted the final approval needed to complete the sale of Landmark Medical Center to the for-profit California chain Prime Healthcare Services, as reported by the Providence Journal. The sale of the bankrupt Woonsocket hospital to Prime will make Landmark the first for-profit hospital in Rhode Island.
Prime, which owns 23 hospitals in five states, brings a big infusion of cash and plans to recruit doctors and attract patients. Prime has promised to spend $30 million on equipment, technology and repairs, to keep the hospital open for at least five years, and to maintain all services for at least two years.
