MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center Recognized for Commitment to Quality Stroke Care
MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award, a national recognition endorsing the hospital’s continued commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for stroke patients.
Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the United States. As a recipient of the AHA/ASA’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Award, MedStar Franklin Square demonstrates continuing efforts to improving the lives of stroke patients by advancing care and outcomes.
To receive the award, MedStar Franklin Square achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with at least five Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke quality measures.
These measures include aggressive risk-reduction therapies, including the use of medications, along with cholesterol-reducing drugs and smoking cessation counseling. The quick and efficient use of guideline measures can improve the quality of care for stroke patients and may reduce disability and save lives.
Get With The Guidelines® is the AHA/ASA’s collaborative performance improvement program, demonstrated to improve adherence to evidence-based care of patients hospitalized with stroke. The Get With The Guidelines® team follows a strict set of criteria in creating achievement and quality measures. Quality measures apply to processes and aspects of care that are strongly supported by science.
The program provides hospitals with a Web-based Patient Management Tool™, decision support, a robust registry, real-time benchmarking capabilities, and other performance improvement methodologies toward the goal of enhancing patient outcomes and saving lives.
