OIG Audit States St. Luke’s Hospital Received Nearly $120K in Medicare Overpayments
Becker’s Hospital CFO reports that Chesterfield, MO-based St. Luke’s Hospital received $119,721 in Medicare overpayments, according to an OIG audit report. The report states that the hospital failed to comply with 14 of 188 outpatient and inpatient claims between 2011 and 2012. The report states that OIG recommended the hospital refund the full amount to comply with Medicare requirements. The hospital agreed with 12 of the 14 claims, but the hospital stated, “both inpatient admissions were medically necessary in accordance with Medicare guidelines and added that it has processes in place for the review of all inpatient claims before discharge to ensure that inpatient status is billed appropriately”. Becker’s states that the OIG maintained their position about the remaining two claims.
