Modern Healthcare reports West Chester Hospital and parent company UC Health are to pay $4.1 million to the federal government. The report states, “The government alleged that a surgeon with admitting privileges to the hospital, Dr. Abubakar Atiq Durrani, performed medically unnecessary spine surgeries between 2009 and 2013. The hospital then knowingly submitted claims to Medicare and Medicaid for hospital charges related to the medically unnecessary surgeries”; UC Health denies the allegations.
