Hospitals with the Highest IT Operating Budget

In the healthcare industry, an operating budget is the forecasted expenditures and revenues for the coming year. As the year goes on, hospital leaders and supply chain managers may adjust purchasing and other spending to ensure the actual budget aligns with the original projection.

According to a Navigant study from August 2018, 38 percent of hospital executives reported the supply chain as a top-priority area to reduce operating expenses for 2019, with workforce management solutions also taking a hit. The study also reported that 22 percent of hospital executives claimed they were facing a shortage of IT experts that was worse than in 2017, compared to 17 percent who claimed the shortage had improved.

Information technology (IT) in healthcare has proven integral to improving patient care outcomes and reducing costs. The most prolific healthcare IT is the electronic health record (EHR) system, which enables secure patient data collection and sharing between providers. Other popular platforms include computerized physician order entry (CPOE), patient portals, telemedicine, and more.
