The Herald Courier reports Ballad Health offered more details into an incident at Bristol Regional Medical Center on August 17, 2020. A Ballad Health employee submitted a complaint through the company's anonymous tip hotline after Greg Neal, CEO of the hospital and not a licensed physician, participated in a surgical procedure. Neal was suspended the same day, and Ballad Health requested his resignation. The attending cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Nathan Smith, was also removed. An investigation began hours after the anonymous tip and found the patient involved was not injured. Neal apologized to Ballad's leadership for his participation and sent a letter of resignation to the Bristol Herald Courier to communicate to the community.
