American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet hospitals provide excellent patient care through their commitment to nursing education and practice. Only 5.7% of the hospitals that Definitive Healthcare tracks are designated as ANCC Magnet hospitals.

Which ANCC Magnet hospital has the greatest number of discharges? 

New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center ranks highest, with 102,654 discharges. In second is Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, with 75,463 discharges, and in third is Long Island Jewish Medical Center, with 61,447.  

Collectively, the top 10 hospitals have 618,811 discharges, with an average of 61,881. 

What is a hospital discharge? 

A hospital discharge happens when a patient is released from inpatient care to return home or transfer to another facility. Discharges can provide a granular look at the performance and workload of a hospital or medical facility.  

What is a Magnet hospital? 

A Magnet hospital is a medical center that the ANCC recognizes for its nursing leaders and staff. These leaders and nurses help improve patient outcomes. Magnet hospitals also receive nursing support and continued education through the ANCC.  

How many Magnet hospitals are in the U.S.? 

According to Definitive Healthcare data, there are currently 535 Magnet hospitals across the U.S. 

What is the ANCC? 

The ANCC, or the American American Nursing Credentialing Center, is an organization that oversees credentialing programs that certify both hospitals and individual nurses for:
