Top 10 hospitals by number of patient discharges

A hospital discharge happens when you leave a hospital after treatment. A hospital can discharge a patient if they feel that they no longer need inpatient care and can go home or if the patient needs to be transferred to a different facility.

Using Definitive Healthcare’s HospitalView product, we created a list of the U.S. hospitals with the highest number of patient discharges. The following data is displayed and ranked according to the most recent 12-month interval tracked in our database.

Why are discharge levels important to a hospital?

Hospital discharges are a metric that indicates the volume of patients that that hospital sees on an annual basis. This metric can be used to compare the number of beds, size, and total costs in order to better understand staffing, clinical workload, and financial issues on a day-to-day basis.
