Which U.S. hospitals have the most beds?
In our HospitalView product, we track more than 9,300 hospitals and integrated delivery networks (IDNs). HospitalView offers access to comprehensive facility profiles including information on staffed beds, bed utilization rate, average length of stay, and more.
The following table lists the top 20 hospitals in the U.S. by the number of staffed beds. The results in this analysis are from the most recent 12-month interval tracked in our database and are sourced from the January 2023 Medicare Cost Report.

Largest hospitals in the U.S. by number of beds
The New York-based Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center has the most staffed beds among hospitals that we track using HospitalView, with 2,342 beds. According to the most recent Medicare Cost Report, Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center has a bed utilization rate of 63.24%. Bed utilization measures the percentage of beds or units that are occupied on an average night over a given period of time. It can also be an indicator of how effectively a hospital manages its resources and provides care to patients. Patients stayed an average of seven days at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.
Advent Health Orlando comes in second place on our list, with 2,247 staffed beds. The facility has a bed utilization rate of 73.66% and an average length of stay of six days. Advent Health Orlando is affiliated with the teaching hospital the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. Of course, Advent Health Orlando is also a member of Advent Health, one of the largest health systems in the U.S. by net patient revenue.
In third place is Jackson Memorial Hospital, another Florida-based facility, with 1,504 staffed beds. Jackson Memorial Hospital has a bed utilization rate of 69.64% and an average length of stay of seven days. The facility is an accredited teaching hospital and academic medical center.
Notably, many of the hospitals with the most staffed beds are in high-population states. There is a three-way tie between New York, Texas, and Pennsylvania, as three hospitals from each state appear on our list. These three states, in addition to Florida and Ohio, are all among the states with the largest populations, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
How many beds does the biggest hospital in the U.S. have?
If we define ‘biggest’ as ‘facility size,’ then Creedmoor Psychiatric Hospital is the largest hospital in the U.S., with a total facility square footage of nearly 9.5 million square feet. Creedmoor Psychiatric Hospital has 349 staffed beds. Despite this relatively small metric, Creedmoor is a psychiatric hospital designed to help patients with severe mental health conditions. The facility has a bed utilization rate of 81.28% and an average length of stay of 486 days.
