In the Definitive Healthcare HospitalView data product, estimated IT operating expenses is a proprietary calculation based on a facility’s size, services, and the data they provide in the Medicare Cost Report.

In this Healthcare Insight, we review the top 20 hospitals in Florida by highest IT operating expenses. The figure used for calculations is a hospital’s most recent Medicare Cost Report, which can include both 2020 and 2021 data.

Which hospital in Florida has the highest IT expenses?

AdventHealth Orlando has the highest estimated IT expenses among hospitals in Florida at more than $143 million. It is the largest hospital in Florida by net patient revenue as well as one of the top hospitals in the U.S. based on IT expenses. Formerly known as Florida Hospital Orlando, AdventHealth Orlando is a top U.S. News hospital with institutes for cancer, cardiovascular conditions, diabetes, and orthopedics.

Jackson Memorial Hospital is a teaching hospital for medical students from the University of Miami and nationally recognized for pediatrics. It is the largest hospital in Miami based on number of beds and is also among the largest hospitals in Miami based on net patient revenue. The hospital has estimated IT expenses of nearly $81 million.

There is one children’s hospital on the list and the rest are short-term acute care hospitals. Several are academic medical centers and two are cancer centers.

What is the average IT expense for hospitals in Florida?
