Our year in review: 7 highlights from 2021

The past year has been tumultuous for the healthcare industry, but it’s also brought its share of exciting opportunities for positive change.

At Definitive Healthcare, 2021 has been a year of growth, challenges, innovation and celebration—both within our organization and for our extraordinary customers who are helping to shape the healthcare industry of tomorrow.

Our 10th anniversary alone guaranteed this year would be a milestone for Definitive Healthcare, yet we ended up having so much more to celebrate. Let’s take a look at some of our top highlights from the past year:

1. We announced new solutions for biopharma and medical device companies

In February, Definitive Healthcare announced powerful enhancements to our solutions suites designed to help biopharma and medical device manufacturers accelerate their go-to-market strategies.

We overhauled our ClaimsRx Data module by tripling the available prescription claims data and enhanced our entire suite with new analytics on physician affiliations and telehealth utilization.

Our life sciences clients continue to benefit from expanded access to comprehensive market data and key contacts, supported by insights that guide decision-making across functions from market intelligence to product development to sales.

2. We enhanced Monocl with powerful new claims data

March saw the launch of the Monocl Professional Claims Extension, a product upgrade that leverages medical claims data to analyze patient interactions and inform medical affairs teams’ work in market research and product development.

This update enhanced our ExpertInsight product with nearly three years of claims data across a variety of therapies and specialties, helping clients to identify and engage scientific experts and key opinion leaders in targeted disease categories around the world.

Refreshed monthly, the additional physician-level claims data deliver insights into referral patterns, communication trends and experts in particular diseases and procedures. The data include context on patient volumes and care preferences that medical affairs teams can use to accelerate clinical research and commercialization processes.

3. The Boston Business Journal named us a ‘Best Place to Work’ company—again

For the fifth consecutive year, the Boston Business Journal named Definitive Healthcare a Best Place to Work in Massachusetts in the category of large companies.

The recognition, made in May, highlights our continued focus on a positive company culture and expanded diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Through DefinitiveCares, our community service outreach program, Definitive Healthcare also demonstrates a commitment to positive change in the communities where our employees live and work. And then at the end of the year, the Boston Globe named us as Top Place to Work in Massachusetts in the large company category, also for the fifth consecutive year. Quite a nice way to bookend the year!

4. We hosted our first-ever user conference

In June, we hosted Definitive LIVE!, a virtual conference for our users. More than 800 attendees joined us for a day of thought leadership, training and industry-focused education, all built around the theme of “Navigating the Complex Healthcare Market.”

Jason Krantz, our founder and CEO, delivered a keynote on the rapidly emerging category of healthcare commercial intelligence. Jason explained how healthcare commercial intelligence combines data, analytics and expertise to generate unparalleled intelligence that companies of all sizes can use to understand, compete and sell into the healthcare ecosystem.

Afterward, our CMO Justin Steinman identified precision medicine as the biggest healthcare opportunity currently facing the U.S. Then our CPO Kate Shamsuddin Jensen offered a glimpse of our product roadmap and discussed the trajectory of telehealth services.

5. We went public

With a ring of Nasdaq’s opening bell, Definitive Healthcare became a publicly traded company on September 15, 2021.

Our IPO marked a major milestone in our company’s 10-year journey from Jason Krantz’s spare bedroom to our headquarters in Framingham, Massachusetts. Over that period, we’ve grown from Jason and Joe to more than 600 employees around the world. And we now deliver healthcare commercial intelligence to more than 2,700 clients around the globe who want to sell into the healthcare ecosystem.

6. We launched Latitude Reporting

Launched in October, Latitude Reporting enables users to build in real-time custom patient cohorts that target specific disease states. With billions of commercial claims regarding diagnoses, procedures, prescriptions, and other clinical attributes, Latitude Reporting offers an iterative solution for users to rapidly adjust search parameters to identify their ideal patient population. It’s powerful enough to answer your most challenging questions, yet intuitive enough that you can do it by yourself.

Used in conjunction with PhysicianView, Latitude Reporting provides life sciences companies with the insights necessary to assess addressable markets, discover key contacts and leverage real-world data to bring treatments and devices to market more quickly.

7. We added Asian expert data to Monocl ExpertInsight

In November, we expanded the global reach of our healthcare commercial intelligence by integrating more than 11 million Chinese and Japanese expert profiles into Monocl ExpertInsight.

Life sciences companies often face challenges identifying and engaging with medical experts throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The updated product offers a look into local opinion leaders’ perspectives, grant data and enriched Japanese and Chinese publication information.

What’s next?

We’ve had a great year, but we’re not ready to rest on our laurels. As we enter 2022, we’re excited to partner with our customers to bring them the new innovations that they need to create new paths to commercial success in the healthcare markets.
