Which hospitals have the most labor and delivery births?

The hospital with the highest number of births last year was The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, located in Houston. The hospital accounted for 0.7% of all hospital deliveries in the U.S. and was the first facility in Texas dedicated to the health of women and newborns, and is one is one of the largest facilities focused on women’s health. The Woman’s Hospital of Texas is also located in the second most populous, which could explain why it accounts for such a large share of last year’s births.

The hospital with the second most labor and delivery births last year was Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. This facility accounted for 0.6% of all delivery births in the U.S. last year and is one of the largest in Texas based on the number of beds. It is also home to the Women’s Pavilion, a state-of-the-art maternal care center that welcomes thousands of babies annually.

The third-place hospital is St David’s North Austin Medical Center, located in Austin, Texas. This hospital also accounted for 0.6% of all U.S. deliveries last year, but it had slightly fewer claims for procedures, resulting in the third-place spot. St David’s has a large and comprehensive labor and delivery department that offers dozens of options for new mothers and numerous programs to help with complicated pregnancies.

Which states saw the most labor and delivery births?

Texas saw by far the most labor and delivery births last year, likely due to its larger population. Texas hospitals occupy six of the top 10 spots on our list, including the top four slots. The top four facilities account for more than two percent of all labor and delivery births in the United States in 2022.

Behind Texas sits Florida, with two hospitals on the list, followed by California and Ohio with one hospital each.
