Top hospitals in Wyoming by net patient revenue

Home to nearly 584,000 people, Wyoming is the least populous state in the U.S. It’s also the second least densely populated state, with only Alaska having fewer people per square mile, due to its small population and 10th largest area. Still, Wyoming has about 35 hospitals and eight integrated delivery networks (IDNs) that stretch across the state, according to Definitive Healthcare data.

Below, we have compiled a list of the top 15 hospitals in Wyoming based on net patient revenue (NPR) using HospitalView. NPR, a standard for measuring a hospital’s financial performance, is the amount of money generated from patient services from sources such as commercial insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare. Knowing a hospital’s NPR can be valuable information for those looking to sell into the healthcare industry.

What Wyoming hospitals have the highest net patient revenue?

The Wyoming hospital with the highest net patient revenue is Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, specifically the West Campus, with an NPR of $372 million. It is a tertiary medical center with a Level III trauma center, the Cheyenne Regional Cancer Center, and the Wyoming Heart and Vascular Institute. The Cheyenne Regional Medical Center also has an inpatient hospice center, allowing the hospital to offer care for a patient’s entire life.

The Cheyenne Regional Medical Center has been ranked high-performing in heart attack care by U.S. News & World Reports and has also been a part of Healthgrades's top 100 hospitals in America for coronary intervention. It has also received Healthgrades's five-star award for treatment of pulmonary embolism, pneumonia, pacemaker procedures, heart failure, and heart attack.

Banner Wyoming Medical Center, owned by Banner Health, has the second-highest NPR in Wyoming, with an NPR of $277 million. This hospital includes two campuses and 14 primary, specialty, and immediate care clinics. With over 200 staffed beds, the Banner Wyoming Medical Center is the largest hospital in Wyoming, and its large number of staffed beds contributes to its more than 14,000 patient discharges per year.

St. John’s Health has Wyoming’s third-highest net patient revenue, with an NPR of $169 million. It is ranked as high-performing in kidney failure, back surgery (spinal fusion), maternity care, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pneumonia, according to U.S. News & World Report. While the NPR of St. John’s is $100 million less than the second-place hospital, it still manages to hold onto the third-place spot and surpass $150 million NPR despite having less than 50 staffed beds and 2,000 patient discharges. These numbers suggest that St. John’s Health’s patients may have longer hospital stays.
