Telehealth technology has existed since the 1950s but has been making huge strides in the past decade or so due to rapid technological advancements in areas like video software and communication.

What is the most used telehealth platform?
Zoom dominates the telehealth space with a market share of 35.96%. Since COVID-19, Zoom has become a ubiquitous form of communication across people’s personal and professional lives. Despite being a general-use telecommunications software, Zoom is the dominant telehealth vendor.
Amwell is ranked second with a market share of 13.16%. Unlike Zoom, Amwell offers telehealth solutions specialized for a wide range of care settings.
Up from 9.46% in 2023, proprietary software solutions now represent nearly 12% of the telehealth market, suggesting that providers are increasingly turning to internal solutions for their telehealth needs.
Healthcare-specific developer Doxy.me and telecom manufacturer Cisco Systems round out the top five with each vendor garnering between 10-12% market share.
What is the telehealth market size?
According to data from the Definitive Healthcare HospitalView product, 78.6% of hospitals have a telemedicine solution installed. That still leaves over a third of hospitals without a telehealth vendor in place, representing a significant opportunity for telehealth software companies to increase market penetration and expand their market share.
As patients continue to prioritize convenience in their care choices, telehealth offers traditional providers a pathway to boosting their competitive value in a hybrid health world increasingly served by retail and digital health organizations.
