Top 10 imaging centers by ultrasound procedures
Ultrasound has long been used in hospital settings. More recent advancements in ultrasound portability have allowed it to move outside hospital walls and into clinics and private practices. There, specialists are using ultrasound to provide real-time, immediate care to their patients. Diagnostic radiology, such as ultrasound, is used in many specialties including cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, gynecology, obstetrics, ophthalmology, and urology. For those who don’t use ultrasound in their practice, the majority refer patients to imaging centers.
Using data from the Atlas All-Payor Claims dataset, we analyzed and ranked the top imaging centers in the U.S. by ultrasound procedures performed in 2024.

Which imaging centers are the largest providers of ultrasound procedures?
The top three imaging centers dominate a significant share of ultrasound procedures nationwide, accounting for nearly 16% of all ultrasound procedures in the U.S. in 2024, showing a notable concentration of volume in just a few locations.
TRA Medical Imaging is by far the largest contributor, performing 6.3% of all ultrasound procedures in the U.S. Its lead is substantial, nearly 30% more volume than the second-ranked provider. This could suggest TRA Medical Imaging has a major regional or national footprint, possibly serving as a referral hub for surrounding facilities.
In second place is Vital Imaging in Miami, Florida, with 4.9% of ultrasound procedures performed in 2024. Following closely behind is Baptist Health Imaging, also located in Miami, Florida, with 4.7% of procedures performed.
From the data, it seems that Miami may be a major hotspot for ultrasound volume. Three centers in the top 10 are located there, collectively performing around 11% of national ultrasound volume. This may reflect the city’s large population, older demographics, and robust healthcare infrastructure.
