Net patient revenue (NPR) is one way to rank the financial success of a healthcare organization.  Calculated by subtracting patient discounts from total patient revenue, NPR can provide insight into the financial strength of a hospital.

What Minnesota hospitals have the highest net patient revenue?

The Minnesota hospital with the highest net patient revenue is Mayo Clinic Hospital - Saint Mary’s Campus, with an NPR of $3.3 billion. M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank East has the second-highest NPR at $1.7 billion. In third is Abbott Northwestern Hospital, with an NPR of $1.3 billion.

All three of these hospitals are located in either Rochester or Minneapolis, which top the list as some of the most populated cities in Minnesota.

On average, the top 25 hospitals in this list also have a greater number of affiliated physicians. The average number of affiliated physicians for these 25 hospitals is 859.28, which is more than four times the Minnesota and U.S. hospital averages which are 203.11 and 203.31, respectively.

With more affiliated physicians, along with being in highly populated areas, these hospitals are likely to treat more patients, leading to higher net patient revenue.
