Physician Burnout

What is physician burnout?

Physician burnout is a psychological condition in which doctors or other healthcare providers experience job detachment, extreme exhaustion and a feeling of ineffectiveness due to chronic job stress.

Physicians are particularly susceptible to burnout due to the demanding nature of medicine, emotional intensity, long work hours and on-the-job pressure.

Why is addressing physician burnout important to healthcare?

Addressing physician burnout is important because it improves the mental health of healthcare providers. When providers have support for their psychological well-being, they can provide safer and more effective care to patients.

In addition, widespread physician burnout can lead to physician shortages, which impact healthcare costs and quality of care.
