What South Carolina hospitals have the highest net patient revenue?

According to Definitive Healthcare data, South Carolina’s hospital market is dominated by a few powerful systems, most notably the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Medical Center, Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital, and Lexington Medical Center, which together generate nearly $6.8 billion in net patient revenue (NPR).

MUSC Medical Center leads the state by a wide margin, bringing in $3.28 billion in NPR. As South Carolina’s only academic medical center and a major referral hub for complex and specialty care, MUSC’s high revenue reflects both its extensive tertiary services and its role as a destination for high-acuity cases from across the Southeast.

In second place, Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital reports $1.98 billion in NPR. Despite having more discharges than MUSC, Greenville Memorial’s lower NPR suggests a slightly different case mix, likely emphasizing high-volume general and specialty care rather than the most resource-intensive procedures.

Lexington Medical Center ranks third with $1.59 billion in net patient revenue.
