KMOV News 4 reports Lake Charles Memorial Hospital NICU nurses stayed behind during Hurricane Laura to care for 19 babies. A team of neonatal nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, and nurses, totaling 19 in all, cared for the infants in two team shifts during the storm. Some of the tiny patients were on ventilators and respirators and could not be easily moved. During the height of the hurricane, nurses said they moved the infants and remaining staff into the hallways for added safety. All of the team and the babies are safe, and hospital leadership are commending the staff for their bravery and sacrifice.
