Preventive Care

What is preventive care?

Preventive care is the healthcare services involved in the prevention of medical conditions. Some of the ways in which healthcare providers prevent illness are by providing immunizations, counseling and screenings. Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), patients may qualify to receive preventive care at no additional cost.

Why is preventive care important to healthcare?

Preventive care is important because it helps people stay healthy and quickly detect health conditions. Without preventive care, people are more likely to develop conditions that lead to complications, like kidney damage, heart disease and increased mortality. Preventive care is also often free to patients with health insurance, making it an affordable option.
